LCA-Washington To Hold Top Of The Class Installation
Koffa Asked To Head Committee

The newly elected president of the Liberian Community Association of the Washington Metropolitan area, Hon. Ernest Johnson, has declared the day of his installation, May 10, 2008, as Unity Day, and to mark the occasion, a top of the class installation program is being planned, and Mr. Morris T. Koffa, veteran and long time community activist,  was named to head the effort as Chairman for the installation committee. The Koffa committee is charged with the task of organizing this grand program with the aim of promoting unity among Liberians in the community, and hope to serve as a model for Liberian communities across the United States. The pending installation program is a first in more than eight years when the community was invited to such an important event.

Early emerging signs revealed that Mr. Koffa and his committee members are determined not to leave any stone unturned when it comes to who will be invited. A preliminary list of invitees released by Mr. Koffa at a recently held executive council meeting includes major Liberian and international organizations, along with well known personalities. While no specific names were revealed, it expected that the installation committee plans to include state and local government officials from the State of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. We are told a special invitation will be sent to Monrovia for a delegation of the Liberian government to grace the occasion. Liberians living in the Washington, DC area are expected to show up in full force as a testimony of how happy they are for their new found community unity.

Members of the Liberian community association, an affiliate of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas, or ULAA, after many years of division and distrust are now ready to move forward towards building a vibrant Liberian community association. The ULAA DC chapter is viewed by its members and other Liberians across the US as a very important organization to all US-based Liberians. For many years LCA-Washington was on the frontline in lobbying the US government and Congressional officials about issues regarding Liberia and its people. As an important link between the rest of the US-based Liberian community and the US capital, LCA-Washington has always led many efforts by hosting conferences and rallies in which Liberians across the US would be invited.

Mr. Koffa in accepting the task promised to organize an installation that will befit the importance attached to the program. To ensure that things run smoothly, Mr. Koffa setup various sub-committees within the grand installation committee to handle every aspect of the program. Mr. Koffa outlined several scenarios he said will be used for the massive promotion of the program which will include advertising on major Liberian news outlets along with grass root promotion. It is envisioned that the installation festivities will consists of three major parts. An official program, that will include the swearing in of officers and keynote address, an installation dinner, and then the installation ball featuring the famous dance of the Grebo tribe known as the “Grand March”.
